Me and a Nembwe, caught in the Delta

I was born in Bangalore, India, we immigrated to Francistown, Botswana where I have spent most of my life and currently reside. I am currently the Director of Technical/IT division of Kemtek (PTY) LTD and our sister companies.

I was given a pair of Minolta 8X40 Binoculars for one of my birthdays, which allowed me to visit the bush surrounding Francistown.

In 1996 I was handed a Minolta Dynax 500Si with 24-70mm Lens, so that while we went to Kruger for the first time I could do the stills photography. The Dynax lasted me in good stead for a long time, although I never really played around with the setting other than Macro and P!

My father then acquired a Canon Eos 5D with 3 F/2.8 Pro Lenses for photographing our products and for model shoots for use in our company. With my first salaries I acquired a Canon Eos 400D with Three Sigma Lenses, a 24-70, 70-300, 50-500. As I got more comfortable with the camera, I quickly started enjoying my time in the bush. It was during a trip in 2009 to India, that I realized the lenses I had were ok for photos in good light but under poor lighting conditions they were not good enough. That’s when I decided to change my lenses, if I really wanted to enjoy my hobby I needed to get a decent low light lens and maybe a newer camera.

In December 2009, I sold my 400D and lens combinations and acquired a Canon Eos 7D which I tested out with my Dad's L series lenses. After much thought I got the Canon EF 300mm F/2.8 L IS USM with both the 1.4X and 2.0 Extenders.

I currently use a Canon G11 for wide angle, around the camp shots and in vehicle shots.

Update: As of December 2010, the Kit now includes, 3 X Canon Eos 7D,Canon EF 300mm F/2.8 L IS USM,Canon EF 70-200mm F/2.8 L IS USM MK2.

Update 2013: I have sold off the 3 X Canon EOS 7D's and replaced them with 3 X Canon EOS 1Dx, the Canon EF 300mm F/2.8L IS USM has been sold to make way for a new lens the Canon EF200-400mm F/4.0 L IS USM.

Me and a Tiger Fish, caught in the DeltaMy work Ethic when Photographing.

I consider my self an amateur rather than a pro. I don’t have the patience or training to consider my self a pro.

My Rules are as follows.

1) If the choice is between disturbing the subject and losing the shot, I would rather lose the shot.

2) Not all pictures come out perfect, or as intended, so keep clicking until the camera can't work!

3) Keep a camera on hand when in the bush as you never know what you will see.

4) Patience is a virtue, watching Wildlife a privilege and photography an expression of my passion.

5) Any one can use a PC to modify a photo, a skilled photographer will do most of the work with the camera.
